The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China explicitly proposed to actively and prudently promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality. This is a major strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core to continue promoting China’s ecological civilization construction with a people-centered approach, and it is also an inevitable requirement for promoting green transformation and high-quality development of the economy and society. From November 2nd to 4th, the 15th China (Wuxi) Chinese Renewable Energy Conference was grandly held in Wuxi. Centering around the theme of “Dual Carbon Empowerment, Scientific and Technological Innovation Future”, the conference parsed new tracks, consulted on new energy industry development plans, and focused on displaying new products, technologies and applications in areas such as photovoltaics, energy storage, and hydrogen energy.
The conference was jointly sponsored by the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, the Global Green Energy Industry Council, the China Chamber of International Commerce, the Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission (Energy Bureau), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Jiangsu Sub-Council, the International Green Economy Association and other units. Ma Xin, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor of the Province, Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Du Xiaogang, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, delivered speeches, and jointly inaugurated the conference with Sha Zukang, former UN Under-Secretary-General and Honorary Chairman of the International Green Economy Association, Shi Yubo, Chairman of the China Energy Research Society, Wang Dapeng, Deputy Director of the New Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, Xie Zhaoxu, Director of China Quality Certification Center.

As an international strategic partner of this conference, the European Association of Energy Storage Trade was invited to participate in the 2023 Carbon Neutrality Action 50 Forum on November 1. It held closed-door meetings with competent authorities, regulatory agencies, central enterprises, financial institutions, leading enterprises in the industry, young entrepreneurs, industry associations and experts and scholars. They exchanged ideas and discussed the steady advancement of new energy industry development and “dual carbon” work, promoting the sustainable development of the new energy industry.

At present, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is thriving, the global energy transition is accelerating, and facing the new situation, new tasks and new requirements, Jiangsu has always adhered to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a guide, and resolutely implemented the “four revolutions and one cooperation” new energy security strategy put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping. It continues to promote the clean and efficient use of traditional energy and the orderly development and utilization of new energy, with the energy structure continuously optimized and energy efficiency continuously improved.
Wuxi started relatively early in the new energy field with a good foundation, and takes a leading position in the manufacturing of new energy equipment. Relying on this advantage, the Wuxi Chinese Renewable Energy Conference has gradually developed into an exchange and cooperation platform with certain influence and appeal.
It is expected that all participating guests can strengthen communication, in-depth discussions and pragmatic cooperation in new energy mechanism innovation, technological tackling, and industrial development through this platform. They can achieve mutual benefit and win-win results through interaction and exchanges, and realize common development through close cooperation. In his speech, Yu Jianlong said that General Secretary Xi Jinping further systematically expounded the strategic decisions and major arrangements for carbon peak and carbon neutrality in his report at the 20th National Congress of the CPC, pointing out the direction for the development of the new energy industry.
The holding of this conference and forum in Wuxi fully reflects the clear stance of the Wuxi Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government to resolutely implement the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee. It also provides a high-quality exchange platform for everyone to further study and comprehend the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, and to research and promote technological innovation and industrial upgrading for carbon neutrality.
After 20 years of continuous cultivation, Wuxi has nurtured a new energy industry cluster worth 100 billion yuan, and has become an important national new energy manufacturing base.
The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and China Chamber of International Commerce will give full play to their own functions and channel advantages, strengthen docking and cooperation with domestic and foreign new energy institutions, and help Wuxi’s new energy industry better connect with international resources. This will further support Wuxi in holding the Chinese Renewable Energy Conference well and empower Wuxi to build itself into the “Capital of China’s New Energy Equipment”.
Du Xiaogang thanked the guests for their long-standing care and support for the development of Wuxi’s new energy industry. He said that in recent years, Wuxi has focused on the new energy equipment sector, adhered to the “market spontaneity + government guidance” dual drive, and persevered in strengthening the chain, supplementing the chain and extending the chain. It has become one of the few cities in China that covers the whole industrial chain and deploys the whole track, and is the “Capital of New Energy Equipment”.
Looking to the future, Wuxi will thoroughly study and implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, earnestly implement the requirements of the central government, the provincial party committee and the provincial government, and take new energy, especially new energy equipment, as an important direction to promote new industrialization and an important aspect to cultivate new productive forces. It will adhere to the “terminal equipment + core components + system integration” trinity, vigorously deploy innovative enterprises, characteristic parks and industrialization projects, give full play to the leverage role of new energy industry funds, zero-carbon risk investment funds, etc., and continuously enrich the “soil” for innovation strategies and industrial development. Wuxi will further polish its business card as the “Capital of New Energy Equipment”.
This year marks the third year since carbon peak and carbon neutrality was proposed. At the 15th Wuxi New Energy Conference, leading enterprises and academician experts from photovoltaics, wind power, hydrogen energy, energy storage and other fields across the country gathered together to explore carbon neutrality paths and technological innovations, and consult on new energy industry development plans.
The new energy conference also actively carried out demand release and docking exchanges in the new energy field around the development needs of the new energy industry, built a platform for product technology transactions, and promoted more project contracting and order completion.
At the meeting, the European Association of Energy Storage Trade said that China-EU economic and trade relations have made great progress over the past 20 years. Specifically, bilateral trade has grown nearly 9 times, EU investment in China has grown nearly 3 times, and China’s investment in the EU has grown from zero to hundreds of billions of US dollars. This is mainly due to the two sides forming a strong economic symbiotic relationship, highly complementary economic and trade relations, and increasing interdependence. In the next stage, the two sides will deepen pragmatic cooperation in areas such as digital, green energy and new energy. The European Association of Energy Storage Trade has gathered excellent resources in the European and even global energy storage industry, and will be committed to promoting the deployment of the global energy storage industry with the goal of supporting the development of an energy system that is economically efficient, climate adaptive and safe and reliable. Subsequently, the European Association of Energy Storage Trade gave an wonderful preview introduction to the 2024 Holland International Energy Storage and Smart Energy Technology Exhibition and Conference (ESTEC 2024) to be held at the RAI Amsterdam from October 15 to 17, 2024. The association said that next year’s Dutch exhibition will conduct in-depth discussions focusing on key areas of new energy storage and smart energy industries, and promote technological innovation cooperation between China and Europe. At that time, the exhibition will also set up the “European Energy Storage & New Energy Technology Innovation Summit”, the “European Energy Storage Industry Development Forum”, the “Global Energy Storage Product Promotion & New Product Launch” and other high-end conferences. It will invite many top experts and scholars in the industry to give speeches and jointly discuss cutting-edge technologies and industry development trends such as renewable energy, smart grids, electric vehicles, and energy storage.
